It was difficult to to see when I looked out from the light of my easel while standing in the loneliness of the empty night desert. When I readjusted my eyes I could see them – like sentient beings spreading their arms to cast shadows. I clung to my original inspiration, the composition I created of a single ocotillo encompassing all my canvas, the extreme darkness punctuated by glittering stars, the cool desert sand under my feet.
